DUSTIN CUIZON
IS
BULLETPROOF

Dustin Cuizon has become a household name and semi-god like figure to groms across the Nation. Having won numerous NSSA National Titles, Hawaii State titles and now 2006 Body Glove Surf Bout champion, Cuizon is well on his way to a successful surfing career. At the mere age of 21 D.C. has set more records in his short professional surfing career than most qualified WCT campaigners.
Dustin claims his talent is homegrown in Ewa beach while growing up with sparing partners like Venton Siliado, Clinton, the Hashimoto brothers and watching some of the older guys like Greg Apo and Chad Delgado. Cuizon is coming into full bloom and now stepping out of the shadows of the guys that originally put Ewa Beach on the map like Isaac Kaneshiro and Shawn Sutton. Cuizon aspires to one day qualify for the Elite World Championship Tour (W.C.T.)
Growing up as a grom, Dustin's parents put in countless hours at the beach, which for good reason has developed this one time grommet into one of Hawaii's rising stars. Dustin too has started his own family with the birth of his first child Zaisha. His daughter birth has definitely sparked a fire of winning streaks and plans on turning it into a huge flame. Aside from surf competitions Dustin loves to raise chickens, which we dubbed him Bulletproof after one of his pride. Cuizon has got a killer coup and a 3-cock trophy to back it up.
Cuizon's talent was spotted early on by Volcom's Team Manager Dave Riddle and Representative Clint Moncata. Dustin was soon on his way from taking amateur titles to skinning professional egos. As Dustin simply puts it "I love to win!" On April 29th 2006 Cuizon did just that...WIN! Taking out the coveted 2006 Body Glove Surf Bout at Trestles and gained 1500 valuable WQS rating points for his campaign at qualifying for the 2007 W.C.T. Prior to this massive feat Dustin also won the Macy's E-Series in Hawaii, it host 3 events around Oahu in Hawaii and Cuizon managed to win all 3 of the events, a task that has never been done before! So without further ado…

The Beginning
6) Do you think surfing saved you from a lot of the problems and issues that affect the youth (12 and 25)? Fuck yeah! If it wasn’t for surfing I would be in the hood every day smoking anything that comes my way for free, and trying to hustle for money in certain ways that I know how like gambling, stealing, and the easiest selling drugs.
Traveling/WQS
7) How did if feel to win the 4* WQS Body Glove Surfbout at Trestles? You were surfing against the reigning Macy’s Trifecta Champion, a local standout and a current WCT rated surfer. It felt really good because I didn’t expect to make it to the final. At the same time when I was surfing my heats I felt really comfortable because my whole life I love to surf heats at Trestles.
8) Has it been difficult adapting to the rigorous schedule of the WQS? One week you are in California, the next in Japan, the following week in France then Portugal; is this the life you dreamed of? Pretty much because I just wanted to make money doing something that I love to do everyday!
9) Many surfers like yourself have started their own families; do you find it hard when you travel due to being away from your family for long periods of time? It’s kind of hard cause I don't get to see them for a while and that's all you think about and when you get back you see how big they get in a matter of weeks.
10) What locations on the WQS do you enjoy? All the ones at home, West Oz because waves are good everywhere, and Cali where the bro's are and the mean megas.
11) What locations on the WQS could you live without? France and all euro competitions because it's too far from home.
Family/Friends
12) You have a solid support group from your friends at home does that keep you grounded? Yup.
13) What other interests do you have besides surfing? I like going fishing whenever the boys find the hot spot or the killa bait. I also like to spend time with my family by going to the beach or going out shopping. Also going to chicken fights or gambling.
Equipment
14) Who shapes your boards? Cino and Glenn Pang
15) What size surfboards do you ride? 5'10
16) Do you change your equipment for certain conditions or are your boars working in the majority of the conditions that you compete in? Sometimes I like to change sizes, but right now my boards work good in all conditions.
Training/Winter Season
17) How do you prepare yourself for competition? Surf at least 3 times a day and eat good everyday.
18) Do you train for specific events? I try and train for all of them but can't get enough training.
19) How do you prepare yourself for the winter season? Try to surf everyday and keep the body working. Sometimes I ride bike to strengthen my legs and paddle boat to strengthen my arms.
Goals/Other Interests
20) What are your goals for 2006? Don't give up and try my best at everything I do.
21) You have an intense desire to win that a lot of people seem to over look, what drives you to be the best? Everywhere I go I see the winner of every contest and it always kills me to know how much money I could've won. I just always chase the money and victory because when you win, you get paid at the same time and it feels good because you know you at least tried.
